AMD's Threadripper Series Gets Core Count Upgrade with Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX
AMD is set to enhance the core count for its popular Threadripper series with the introduction of the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX. This high-end desktop (HEDT) platform boasts an impressive 96 cores and 192 threads, making it the first core count upgrade since the Threadripper 3000 series. The 7995WX CPU was recently spotted in the HP Z6 G5 Workstation system, suggesting it may be one of the first prebuilt systems from AMD's OEM partners. With no signs of non-PRO consumer models emerging, the Threadripper PRO series seems poised to dominate AMD's HEDT offerings.
The latest Geekbench listing revealed the 96-core configuration of the 7995WX CPU. Although the base frequency may be misrepresented, benchmark data suggests that the CPU could potentially reach a boost clock of 5.14 GHz, a detail further confirmed by Geekbench's output. Another notable enhancement in the Threadripper series is the introduction of the DDR5 memory standard. While not explicitly mentioned in the benchmarking tool, a memory configuration of 503.27 GB (512 GB) is highlighted. On Geekbench v5.5 for Linux (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS), the CPU achieved a single-core score of 2095 points and a multi-core score of 81408 points, making it one of the fastest CPUs in the database.
