An unusual MSI RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X graphics card is available for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The seller, based in Sydney, Australia, is advertising this component as a custom model with a non-standard allocation of VRAM. According to the seller, the card has 20 GB of VRAM instead of the standard 12 GB. The used item is described as being in good condition, with some scuff marks from the previous owner. The seller claims that this card is an extremely rare collector's item, as NVIDIA cancelled these variants a month before release. The seller is asking for AU$1100 (~$740 USD), reduced from the original asking price of AU$1,300 (~$870 USD).
Two years ago, MSI and Gigabyte were reportedly planning to launch GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 20 GB variants. However, NVIDIA decided to stick with the standard 12 GB GPU, possibly due to concerns about costs and production volumes. As a result, the affected AIBs chose not to destroy their stock of 20 GB cards and instead sold them to crypto miners and shady retailers. Mining-oriented units can be identified by marks on their I/O ports.
The seller included a higher-resolution screenshot of their desktop, showing a score of 21.9K points in TimeSpy (3D Mark) benchmarks. The screenshot also reveals details from TechPowerUp GPU-Z v2.53.0 and some tweaks made through MSI Afterburner. The card for sale is based on Ampere GA102 and has 10,496 CUDA cores and 20 GB of GDDR6 memory with a 320-bit bus, clocked at 1188 MHz. It is worth noting that NVIDIA does not offer official drivers for this variant, so custom software modding is required. With proper first-party support, this MSI RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X 20 GB model could potentially perform at a higher level.
