SK hynix Unveils Industry-First Mass Production of HBM4 Memory for AI
SK hynix Inc. has announced the completion of development and readiness for mass production of HBM4, its next-generation high bandwidth memory (HBM) product designed for ultra-high performance artificial intelligence applications. This achievement marks the world’s first mass production system for HBM4, reinforcing SK hynix’s leadership in the global AI memory market.
HBM4: Setting a New Standard in AI Memory Performance
With the rapid growth in AI demand and the increasing need for faster data processing, high bandwidth memory has become essential for accelerating system speeds. At the same time, power efficiency is now a critical requirement, as data center energy consumption continues to rise. SK hynix’s HBM4 addresses these challenges by delivering industry-leading data processing speeds and significant improvements in power efficiency.
The new HBM4 features 2,048 I/O terminals—double that of the previous generation—enabling a bandwidth that is twice as high. Power efficiency has been enhanced by more than 40%, making HBM4 an optimal solution for customers seeking both performance and energy savings. According to SK hynix, integrating HBM4 can improve AI service performance by up to 69%, helping to alleviate data bottlenecks and substantially reduce data center power costs.
Technological Advancements and Reliability
HBM4 surpasses the JEDEC standard operating speed of 8 Gbps, achieving speeds of over 10 Gbps. This leap in performance is made possible by the adoption of advanced manufacturing processes, including the Advanced MR-MUF process—already proven for reliability in the market—and the 1b nm process, representing the fifth generation of 10-nanometer technology. These innovations help minimize risks in mass production and ensure consistent product quality.
