Thanks to the discovery of VideoCardz, we have a sneak peek at MAXSUN's newest Arc 580 GPU, which not only features a GPU but also has space for two additional M.2 SSDs. The Intel Arc B580's PCIe connector has x16 physical pins but operates at PCIe 4.0 x8 speeds, utilizing only x8 lanes instead of the full x16 slot. MAXSUN has found a clever way to utilize the unused x8 lanes by adding two PCIe x4 M.2 SSDs to the latest triple-fan iCraft B580 SKU. Power for the M.2 drives is supplied directly from the graphics card, thanks to the GPU's partial PCIe lane usage. This setup could be especially beneficial for compact builds or systems with limited motherboard storage options.

Interestingly, the SSD pair seems to have its own thermal enclosure acting as a heatsink. With constant airflow from the GPU's fans, the M.2 SSD configuration should be able to fully utilize the SSDs' bandwidth without thermal throttling affecting read/write speeds. This design follows in the footsteps of AMD's Radeon Pro SSG, which introduced integrated storage in workstation cards featuring PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots. Initially targeted at workstation users, MAXSUN now envisions gamers expanding their storage space in a unique way. The pricing and availability date of the card remain unknown.
